Social Media is broken. Can it be fixed?

Do you remember the first time you logged onto Facebook?

That feeling you had when you signed up, added your first few friends and maybe even created your first post.

Oh, how innocent the internet was back then.

Facebook was fun, interesting, and actually brought value into our lives. The same goes for Twitter; many of us joined, finding it to be a fun platform to share quick thoughts and even to connect with celebrities and public figures around the world.

But unfortunately the golden age for Web2 social media ended years ago.

Now, as we all know, social media platforms have become cesspools for cancellation and division, all whilst being built on a model of monetization that favours the platform, not the creator.

The shiny layers of social media are cracked and peeling off

Social media platforms today love to put out big announcements, with edgy graphics that show how they are “changing” and not going to lead us down the same path that resulted in them getting rich and us being divided.

But we don’t trust them anymore.

Why should we have faith in platforms that have one goal in mind — to make money and keep you addicted? Twitter and Facebook started with the mission of building the internet and connecting the world, but while doing that they let greed determine how their platforms should be run.

Social media platforms shouldn’t be run behind closed doors, with complex terms and conditions that result in profit maximization for a few people at the expense of the user. We should be able to trust our social media platforms. Rules should be applied consistently, and monetization needs to be easy and fair for creators.

We need to fix our broken social media platforms

People are today beginning to leave Web2 social media platforms, as the world wakes up to the pitfalls of centralization. We need to build a future where the user is in control, not just a few big tech executives.

But is this even possible? Well yes, we can fix it, but we need to unleash the power of Web3 to do so.

Web3 is giving us the opportunity to change the internet, and in doing so, change the world. We can restore social media to what made it fun in the beginning. These are things like sharing cool content, consistency and clarity on community rules and most importantly, user control and user rewards.

Solcial: Harnessing the power of Web3 to build tomorrow’s social media

We’ve seen what Web3 can do with things like DeFi and the revolution Play2Earn has brought to the gaming industry. Here at Solcial, we are incorporating the decentralized power of blockchain to lead in the development of the new and improved social media universe.

By putting the user first, we are taking the power from the centralized few and giving it to the decentralized masses.

If you’re a free thinker — Solcial is for you.

If you want to revolutionise the internet — Solcial is for you.

If you want to fix our current culture around social media — Solcial is for you.

BUT, if you want to censor those you disagree with, maintain the status-quo online, and give all your data for free — maybe Solcial won’t be for you…

We look forward to expanding on how different features work on Social in the near future, but in meantime keep your web2 platforms active as we will be updating the community as we prepare for launch. Friends, the time for change is now. We can fix social media, we can revolutionise the internet, and we will do it together.

Let’s take back control of our own data, our own content, and our own future.
